Security

 

This is a seminar certificate that shows I completed a seminar by World Vision on the importance of safety and ways to protect yourself. It is common sense a lot of time to take care of yourself especially when you are traveling. This seminar gave very practical advise as to make sure you are being precautious when you are traveling. 

It is important to always take a local with you

places, because they know the area, and the

culture, the language and it can help keep you

safer. I always try to make friends with someone

who can go places with me and help bridge

barriers. 

I completed a Personal safety and security

seminar by the red cross. It covered a

wide variety of scenarios that you might

come across in the field and things you can

do to protect yourself. Traveling to places

where you are unfamiliar with the area, the 

culture, and the language can put you at

risk for being attacked, or taken advantage

of, knowing this ahead of time and being

aware of what you can do to prevent

dangerous situations.  ​

It is important to keep things locked up

when you leave or when you are

sleeping in order to ensure you are safe,

especially in places that you are

unfamiliar. Locking up your personal 

belongings, money, or personal

documents. It is important to make sure

you don't lose these things while you are

traveling or in a new place. 

Self Care

E​motional Intelligence Case Study shows that it is important because being aware of how you feel feel and being able to articulate that to others is a part of being healthy. Having emotional intelligence is important not just in work but in life and in relationships. It allows you to be able to relate to being and to be able to communicate what you need or what you expect from other people. It also allows you to be able to set up healthy boundaries. 

Nail Salon is not something that I do often, but is something that I do when I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed. It forces me to relax and take some time for myself and feel better about myself and how I look. It is something that just gives me a little extra support and I can often do it with a friends and reconnect. 

Face masks are a good way to take some

extra time to take care of yourself. Whenever

I travel my skin breaks out and doing a face

mask allows me to relax and take some

time for my skin. I think being able to do 

small things for yourself on the day-to-day

is important. Taking care of your health 

with vitamins and skin care is good. It 

shouldn't take a big thing or or big break 

to make you start taking care of yourself. 

 

 

I took some time when I was in Nepal to go

to a spa and get a massage and some Henna.

It was fun and a nice way to relax and

take some time for myself. I get really tight

when I am stressed, I got the worst food

poisoning I have ever had in my life while I

was in Nepal. Being able to take care of

myself and work the stress out of my muscles 

with a message was a really nice thing.

sitting on cramped planes all create for not a lot of sleep so doing something calming and relaxing is important.  

Health & Wellness

 

When I was in Haiti I got bit by something. It left a bullseye type mark and  there was some concern that it might be a tick. I wrapped in in a charcoal press and it drew out some of the toxins and it made the mark disappear. I think it is important to always travel with charcoal and other first aid things. In our daily lives we become accustom to the dangers and things we might encounter however in other places especially other countries we run into other things that could make sure sick that we don't in our daily lives so being prepared to that is important. 

 

When we were in Kenya we often played games in between classes or during our breaks in order to get our blood flowing and keeping our moods and minds sharp. I think this is a good thing to do to keep you mentally healthy. Taking breaks when you are doing a lot of sitting and learning and taking in and processing large amounts of information it is easy to get overwhelmed or overloaded. Taking breaks allowed the blood flow and the brain to reset. 

Using mosquito nets and vaccines when traveling or in areas where malaria or other diseases are more prominent areas is a good thing to do to take care of your health. Taking proactive steps is more important than having to take care of yourself and suffering through the symptoms of the disease. It is easier and better to prevent than to to treat. Preventing can be as simple as sleeping under a net, which honestly keeps the mosquitos from buzzing in your ear and waking you up at night. 

I have a water purifier that I use when I travel in order to make sure that the water I drink is safe and free of contaminants and toxins. It keeps you from getting sick. Drinking water is important. Drinking lots of water is important, especially in places that are hot and humid where you may be sweating more than normal, or where you do a lot of physical activity. However, water is not safe for drinking everywhere, being able to know where to get clean water is important, or how to treat it yourself so it is then safe to drink or use.
